Two notable spots for agate enthusiasts are Stonefield Beach and Neptune Beach, both located near Yachats.
Stonefield Beach
Stonefield Beach State Recreation Site, situated between Yachats and Florence, offers a serene environment for rockhounding.The northern part of the beach is particularly rich in agates, carnelian, sagenitic stones, jasper, petrified wood, shells, and sea glass. The best time to visit is between November and April, when winter storms and king tides expose hidden treasures by removing top layers of gravel and sand.
Neptune Beach
Located approximately 4 miles south of Yachats, Neptune Beach is part of the Cape Perpetua Marine Reserve. This area is known for its rich geological diversity, making it a prime location for rockhounding. The beach comprises a blend of sand, cobbles, and volcanic basalt bedrock, ideal for rockhounding and tidepool-watching enthusiasts.
